The Republic of China

Okay, so this is confusing. China's history is fascinating... but confusing. I'm gonna leave out a LOT of fictional wars, treaties, and details, and real wars, treaties and details, it may make sense to someone who's living there (if you are living there, than I can say whatever I want about you, because you can't see this, because of the great firewall :3 ) and studied the history well, but I'm living in the West, so I know Western history well... so... here we go.

So, in the between, not long before the Xinhai Revolution of 1911, the Qing Empire like their neighbor Japan invest heavily in the research and adaptation of western technologies, like those from the United States, and Great Britain. Many ideas began gaining power in the Qing Empire, including the idea of Democracy, rather than Communism. In the Republic of China's establishment of a constitution, they were far more in power than the Communist Chinese, and had assistance from the United States, who wished to quietly install capitalism in China, as well as Democracy, so the United States government secretly funneled troops and materiel into the Republic of China, where the Republic fought back the Chinese Communists. Due to Communism's failure to rise in China, and following success with capitalism, along with Japan's success with capitalism, democracy and capitalism became far more the abundant spreading idea throughout the world, rather than Communism, this being said, the Cold War wasn't much about containing the spread of Communism, but containing the spread of Democracy and Capitalism by the Soviet Union. The Republic of China, like many others, has made several claims on Antarctica, which of course aren't recognized by the United Nations. The Republic of China, after the 1950s, through conquest, gained territories in Africa, however these are now extremely autonomous territories, therefore, like Puerto Rico, they are overlooked by the UN and are not recognized by the United Nations as colonies. As of the 2000s, the Republic of China had the world's 1st largest economy, but it became second in the early 2010s. The Republic of China has been struggling with African countries which have been trying to move the Republic in the UN to release their African territories.
